Whilst flicking through the various recipes for lentil dhal, I picked up on idea for breakfast pancakes, using left-over dahl. I slept too late for breakfast or brunch, nipped into town to pick up a few essential bits and missed lunch, so this is now an early afternoon snack (earnack?).

Best enjoyed with a dab on the side of tomato chutney, whilst hopped up on Lemsip, and with Bon Jovi’s “Blaze of Glory” blasting away in the background….

Lentil Dhal Pancakes

Pre-cooked lentil dhal

Self-raising flour

Half a green chilli, deseeded and chopped finely

One third a white onion, chopped finely

Vegetable oil

 

Mix the dhal with the chilli and onion, and then add the flour, mixing, until you have a firm dough (this could be quite a lot of flour).

Heat a dribble of oil in a frying pan, then tear off a ball of the dough.  Flatten with a rolling pin or fish slice.

Place the pancake in the pan and fry until golden brown on both sides.
