Shoo Fly Marches On


Work.  Shopping for a camping trip.  Remembering last minute to vote in the European elections (a difficult choice between the mendacious, shallow, grasping bastards that constitute the main parties, and 17 different racist, foaming-at-the-mouth micro-parties that have sprung up like toadstools after a rain of pure urine).

Finally crawled home, and if that description above hasn’t put you off your food, I have a nice supper recipe for you…..


Half a red pepper, sliced thinly widthways
One flat mushroom, likewise
Half a small red onion, chopped
One garlic clove, chopped
Tin tomatoes
Tomato puree
One egg
Olive oil
Cumin, turmeric, chilli powder, paprika

Heat olive oil in a wok and fry the red onion gently till golden.

Add the garlic and red pepper, fry for a minute or two.

Add the spices and puree, mix well.

Then add the mushrooms, tomatoes, salt and pepper.  Simmer for 10 minutes, uncovered.

Make a hollow in the middle of the tomato mix, crack an egg into it.

Cover the wok and leave for 5 minutes to poach.

Serve – suggestions include feta or yogurt.  I think naan bread would go also well.
